Elizabeth Wluka joined the BC athletics staff in June 2022 and currently serves as the Assistant Athletics Director of Sports Nutrition. As a registered dietician and a board certified specialist in sports dietetics, Wluka provides individual counseling as well as team nutrition education to enhance the health and performance of all student-athletes. In this role, she is responsible for planning, developing and implementing performance nutrition services provided to 30+ teams. Prior to BC, Wluka was the first full-time Director of Sports Nutrition at the University of Connecticut from 2017-2022. While working at UConn, she completed her Masters degree in Applied Nutrition and Fitness from Northeastern University in 2020. Prior to UConn, Liz completed the Sports Nutrition Immersion Program (SNIP) at UNC-Chapel Hill from 2016-2017. Liz completed her dietetic internship at Pepperdine University and interned at UCLA in their sports nutrition department in 2016. Liz graduated from Syracuse University in 2015 majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics. Wluka was elected in May 2023 to serve on the ASPDA (American Sports & Performance Dietitians Association) Board of Directors as the Student Programming Chair.

Description:

This lecture series is an evidence-based introduction to nutrition principles that support health, athletic performance, and overall well-being. Each session combines current research with practical strategies that students can immediately apply to their own lives or professional practice. Interactive components - such as case studies, nutrition assessments, and hands-on calculations - will reinforce learning and emphasize real-world application.

1) Carbohydrates: Fueling Body & Brain

2) Protein: Building & Repairing 

3) Dietary Fat: Energy, Hormones & Health

4) Hydration: Fluid Balance & Performance

5) Supplements: Evidence, Safety & Practical Use

 

6) Case Studies: Integrating Knowledge Into Practice

Timeline and Requirements:

The course will take place every Tuesday from March 10th to April 14th. This workshop series is presenter-led and is a fully online experience. This will be conducted synchronously online via Zoom.

Fees and Policies: 

Payment is due by credit card at registration. Refunds will be granted only up until registration closes at 5pm on March 10th. No refunds will be granted for errors on the participant's part (such as incorrect name/email upon registration, login failure, scheduling conflicts, etc.).
